Getting to Copenhagen
By air
Most travellers will reach Copenhagen by air. Copenhagen Airport is located on the island of Amager east of Copenhagen. From the airport, you can reach the city centre by train or metro. See the website http://www.rejseplanen.dk for help.
By rail
The central train station is Københavns Hovedbanegård. This station is, of course, in the city centre and is well connected to other stations in Copenhagen. The website http://www.rejseplanen.dk can help you find your way from the central station to your hotel.
By road
If you reach Copenhagen by car, use Google maps or your GPS (SatNav) to find your hotel. Don't forget to have your lights on while driving, also during the day...
Local transportation
The conference takes place at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in Lyngby (strictly: Kongens Lyngby), which is a town on the outskirts of Copenhagen (see the map below).
Find your journey to DTU here
The common way to get from Copenhagen to DTU is to use public transportation. However, be aware that the distance between Copenhagen city centre and DTU is about 15 kms (10 miles). This takes at least 40 mins.
Get around
There is a very useful website, http://www.rejseplanen.dk, which will help you find the fastest route from your hotel to DTU. You are advised to use this website to check the connections from your hotel before booking a room. You can also use the form on the right.
Main hubs
In general, it will be a good idea to choose a hotel near Nørreport station or near a metro station. Nørreport station is the main hub for local transportation and is directly connected to all metro stations (note that Copenhagen central station is not on the metro line but is connected to Nørreport st. via buses and trains). There are frequent buses from Nørreport station to DTU (lines 150S and 173E). Do note that the buses can be crowded in rush hour, and that in order to get to the conference hall you will need to walk 5-10 mins from the bus stop, which is practically on the highway.
There are also trains from Copenhagen to Lyngby station, but then you will need a bus from Lyngby station to DTU; unfortunately, there are not always enough buses on this route and you may have to wait (or use your elbows). Alternatively, you can take a taxi from Lyngby station to DTU.
Public transportation prices
The price you pay for your journey depends on which zones you travel through; you count the number of zones between your starting point and the point on your journey which is farthest away from your starting point, and that is how many zones you need to pay for. This is not necessarily equal to the number of zones that you travel through. The easiest way to figure out how many zones you need to pay for is by using the zone maps located at all stations and bus stops. There are 5 zones from Nørreport station to DTU (or vice versa) if you take any reasonable route. Note that in some cases, the number of zones from A to B is not the same as the number of zones from B to A! If you are confused, you can use http://www.rejseplanen.dk to check the price of your journey.
